The IRCITE 2025 was a national research conference focused on promoting advancements and inclusivity in IT education. It provided a platform for students, educators, and professionals to share research findings and innovations. Our team from Gordon College presented our capstone project:
“Revolutionizing Travel in Olongapo and Zambales: Zam-Olo Explore’s Mission to Elevate Exploration and Experience through a Seamless Android and Web Booking App.”
SEMINAR TITLE: “International Research Conference on Information Technology Education (IRCITE 2025)” Empower, Collaborates, Excel: Advancing Excellence and Inclusivity in IT Education for a Digital Future.”
I. DETAILS OF THE EVENT/ACTIVITY
This project addresses inefficiencies in bus travel and booking systems in the region by introducing Zamolo Explore, a Progressive Web App built using Laravel, Angular, and JavaScript. It enhances booking, real-time tracking, and travel planning to improve the commuter experience and promote local tourism.
II. REFLECTIONS ON THE SEMINAR/ACTIVITY GIVE RISE TO (LEARNINGS)
Participating in IRCITE 2025 allowed us to understand the importance of clear, impactful research communication. We learned the value of presenting real-world problems through structured, solution-oriented projects. Hearing other participants share their innovative works helped us recognize emerging trends and technologies shaping IT education and its applications in the real world.
III. REFLECTIONS ON POSSIBILITIES ON IMPLEMENTING SOME OF THE SEMINAR INPUT ON A PRACTICAL LEVEL (PRACTICAL APPLICATION OF LEARNINGS)
Based on the inputs and insights from the conference, we are now exploring several key enhancements to Zamolo Explore. We plan to integrate an offline SMS booking system to serve commuters without internet access, particularly in remote areas. This feature ensures inclusivity and accessibility even in offline conditions. To further enhance the user experience, we are also developing AI-driven personalized recommendations that suggest routes, schedules, and promotions based on commuter behavior. In response to feedback, we will improve the platform’s accessibility for differently-abled users by adding voice commands, adjustable text size, and high-contrast modes. Additionally, we aim to test the platform through pilot programs in collaboration with local transport operators in Olongapo and Zambales.
IV. POSITIVE FEEDBACKS
We received encouraging feedback for tackling a widespread transportation problem with a community-centered tech solution. The platform’s potential to support tourism and local economic growth was acknowledged. The use of a PWA and integration of real-time features were particularly well-received.
V. SUGGESTIONS FOR IMPROVEMENTS TO BE MADE/CONSIDER FOR FUTURE ACTIVITIES
It is recommended to allot dedicated slots for student demo sessions that include live Q&A to enhance engagement and provide immediate feedback. Providing clearer technical guidelines for virtual presentations will help ensure smooth and professional delivery. Encouraging interactive forums after presentations can promote networking and collaboration among participants. Lastly, ensuring stable platform support during online sessions is crucial for a seamless experience.
