HTML and CSS: Mastering the Basics of Flexbox
Our titled HTML and CSS: Mastering the Basics of Flexbox was held on May 9, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 3:30 PM at Room 519 in Gordon College. It was organized by our team, Squad, as part of our advocacy to share knowledge and develop front-end web development skills among fellow students. The speaker was Mr. Raven Andre Legarde, a 4th-year BSIT student who discussed the fundamentals of Flexbox, a CSS layout model used to design responsive and flexible web pages. The event was free for all attendees, and registration was done through a QR code system. I. DETAILS OF THE EVENT/ACTIVITY
The seminar included a live demonstration of how Flexbox works and how it can be used to align, justify, and order elements in a webpage layout.
II. REFLECTIONS ON THE SEMINAR/ACTIVITY GIVE RISE TO (LEARNINGS)
- The seminar helped us understand how powerful and useful Flexbox is in web design. We
learned about different Flexbox properties like justify-content, align-items, flex-direction, and
how to use them to position elements easily. The live coding session made it easier for us to
see how changes in the code affect the layout in real time. We also learned the importance of
proper structure and responsive design in web development.
III. REFLECTIONS ON POSSIBILITIES ON IMPLEMENTING SOME OF THE SEMINAR INPUT ON A PRACTICAL LEVEL (PRACTICAL APPLICATION OF LEARNINGS)
Everything we learned can be used directly in our school projects and personal websites. Now we know how to build cleaner, more organized layouts using Flexbox. It will help us save time in coding and make our designs look better on both desktop and mobile screens. It also motivated us to explore more CSS tools like Grid and frameworks in the future.
IV. POSITIVE FEEDBACKS
The event was very informative and well-prepared. The speaker, Mr. Raven, explained the topic clearly and gave helpful examples. Attendees appreciated the hands-on demonstration and the chance to ask questions. Many students said they now feel more confident in using Flexbox. The atmosphere was also fun and welcoming, which encouraged more participation.
V. SUGGESTIONS FOR IMPROVEMENTS TO BE MADE/CONSIDER FOR FUTURE ACTIVITIES
Overall, everything went smoothly during the seminar. One thing that could be improved is giving more time for the Q&A session so that the audience can ask more questions and clarify their concerns about the topic.
